About two decades ago, I attended a lecture in English. The speaker was very fluent and had impeccable pronunciation. After the talk, almost everyone was gaga with the talk. This prompted me to ask people as to what the speaker wanted to convey; what was the substance of his talk. But no one was able to pinpoint.

The speaker had great command over language, but he was going in circles. He had no clarity over the subject. The result was neither anyone understood him, nor anyone was able to summarise his talk.

This often happens with talks, articles, and judgements. One goes on in circles, using difficult, technical words and then states the conclusion without making his reasoning clear. This happens, when subject is not clear to the speaker or the writer. So, clarity of the subject is essential to achieve good communication. 

Conclusion: Clear understanding of the subject is key to the good communication.
