This is the ninth and concluding post of the series 'Happy Days Gone by'. It ends on the note 'हम होंगे कामयाब'.

Happy Days Gone By

Introduction।। Students' Enthusiasm at Allahabad - Unparalleled।। God Does Not Exist।। The Unforgettable Teacher - Prof. RD Pathak।। Don't Worry, It Will Cool Down।। Can Parliament Abolish Constitution।। Fall from Grace।। We Shall Overcome।। 

The newly recruited faculty of the Allahabad University is not part of the sixth generation. You are the new generation, the seventh one. You have everything to change the fate of this great institution.

It is said 'The Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton.' Teaching is the noblest of all professions. Education institutions are places, where nations are built. 

Always remember that you will be walking on the same corridors, teaching in the same classrooms, where once Meghnath Saha, KS Krishnan, Neel Ratna Dhar, Firak Gorkhpuri, and Harivansh Rai Bachchan taught. 

You will be entering the same practical rooms, where, for many years Nobel laureate CV Raman took viva as an external examiner. 

You will be teaching in the same classrooms, where Harischandra, Dharamvir Bharti, Padma Bhushan Father Camille Bulcke (कामिल बुल्के), not only many cabinet secretaries, numerous judges, Chief Justices of India, but also of Pakistan studied.

You haven't been selected because of some relationship; you are not mediocre but the best among those, who appeared in the interview. I have no doubts that downward swing will be reversed: you will take the University again to the high pedestal that it had. But remember the notches and ridges of the key opening the door to the glorious future and follow them. Here they are for your benefit:

    1. Invite great, inspiring people to the campus to deliver talks.

    2. Create interest in the subject.

    3. Recommend good general books.

    4. Give more importance to the students than to yourself.  

    5. Understand, when a student is in trouble and help him. 

    6. Generate discussion and thought provocation. 

    7. Participate and mentor students’ activities.

If you apply this key and have faith in yourselves: then there is no doubt:

हम होंगे कामयाब, हम होंगे कामयाब 

हम होंगे कामयाब एक दिन 

हो हो मन में है विश्वास, 

पूरा है विश्वास हम होंगे कामयाब एक दिन
